One of the best things you can do is during pregnancy is seek regular prenatal chiropractic care. At our office, we are highly trained in prenatal chiropractic care. During pregnancy a woman needs to have her body as healthy and strong as it can be to prepare for childbirth. Chiropractic care helps to ensure that all body systems function correctly, especially the reproductive system which includes the uterus, ovaries, and related organs and structures for healthy pregnancy. Establishing pelvic balance and alignment is very important during pregnancy. When the pelvis is misaligned, it may reduce the amount of room available for the developing baby. This restriction is called intrauterine constraint. A misaligned pelvis may also make it difficult for the baby to get into the best possible position for delivery. This can affect the mother’s ability to have a natural, non-invasive birth. Breech and posterior positions can interfere with the natural ease of labor and lead to interventions such as C-sections.

Prenatal Chiropractic Care Treats
If you’re a woman of childbearing age, now is the perfect time to begin prenatal chiropractic care. Even if you’ve never been pregnant, the health choices you make now have a profound impact on your pregnancy and any children you may have one day. Research has also revealed that their grandmother’s dietary choices influence a child’s health during pregnancy. So, no matter what you or your family’s health has been like in the past, you can make better choices toward a healthier future.
At Vital Wellness Center, cultivating healthy lives is at the heart of our mission. Our prenatal chiropractor, Dr. David Foss, is certified in Webster Prenatal Chiropractic. The Webster method is an internationally accepted way to gently optimize a pregnant mother’s lumbar spine and pelvic alignment. This helps promote an atmosphere of wellness inside the womb for baby and a healthier pregnancy experience for mom. Dr. Foss completed extensive postgraduate specialty training in this method and has extensive experience using Webster-based techniques in his prenatal chiropractic practice.
Benefits for Mom
Pregnancy is a revolution. In addition to starting or adding to your family, your body is undergoing massive changes as it grows new life. You probably expect to have morning sickness or an aching back, but what do you do when you experience severe nasal congestion or painful heartburn?
Fortunately, Dr. Foss can anticipate and help you treat a full range of pregnancy-related concerns. Prenatal chiropractic care at Vital Wellness Center has multiple benefits. Whether you’re a new or experienced mom, you can enjoy peace of mind from having such a resourceful and knowledgeable prenatal health team. You can also get scientifically proven help with many of the physical complaints of pregnancy. Pregnant friends and family will tell you all about their aching back or swollen ankles, but how many will tell you about their painful hips even though it is the second most common pain complaint doctors hear.
When you visit Dr. Foss, he doesn’t just target your symptoms. He focuses on their source. When you have aching hips, you get a comprehensive program for addressing the underlying lifestyle issues impacting the feeling and function of your hips and pelvis. Since the round ligament of the hips contains and supports the uterus, it can make everyday movement painful. Our prenatal chiropractor can also help support better bladder and bowel function through addressing round ligament issues because this ligament also supports them.
Benefits for Baby
Seeing a prenatal chiropractor isn’t just good for mom. It’s an excellent way for babies to begin life. While much of what a baby is doing in the womb is not visible, it is still vital. Over 40 weeks, a new human is formed with the basic structures needed for a lifetime.
As your baby develops and stretches your uterus it’s important to keep your pelvis in balance. If your pelvis is out of balance in any way, it can cause the ligaments that support your uterus to become torqued and twisted. This creates an uneven pull on the uterus, which has the potential to restrict your baby’s movement and hamper optimal positioning. Any compromised position for your baby throughout pregnancy will affect his or her development. In addition, it can hinder your baby from moving into the best possible position for birth.
Benefits During Labor
Prenatal chiropractic care can help prevent dystocia. Dystocia is defined as difficult labor. , which is something every woman wants to avoid. Dystocia can lead to multiple medical interventions which can be physically and emotionally traumatic to both you and your baby. Some common interventions used during a difficult labor are the administration of pitocin, the use of epidurals, painful episiotomies, forceful pulling on the baby’s fragile spine via vacuum extraction, forceps and perhaps even c-sections.
Studies reveal that commonly reported reasons for women experiencing dystocia are inhibited nerve function, pelvic imbalance and the baby’s position. Prenatal chiropractic care throughout your pregnancy may restore nerve function to your uterus, balance your pelvic muscles and ligaments, and potentially lead to a safer and easier delivery for you and your baby.
We offer specific spinal and pelvic analysis and adjustments for your special needs in pregnancy. You and your baby’s continued safety and comfort are foremost in our care.

How Will You Feel After Your First Treatment?
Wondering how you’ll feel after your first few adjustments? Read on:
Some people report feeling great!
Research indicates that some patients receiving chiropractic adjustments may experience a mild side effect of some kind (Cagnie, Vinck, Beernaert & Cambier, 2004; Chaibi, Benth, Tuchin & Russell, 2017). Many patients feel the effects of an adjustment right away, while it may take a bit longer for others. Since everyone is unique, it’s impossible to make exact predictions about how your body will react to the first adjustments from Dr. Foss, so here are some common experiences reported by patients to help you prepare for the possibilities!
Some feel a little bit sore…
Other people report minor discomfort after their first adjustments, particularly in the areas of greatest subluxation. A 2017 study by Chaibi, Benth, Tuchin and Russell indicates that 11.3% of patients receiving chiropractic adjustments during the study experienced a mild, localized tenderness afterward. Muscle soreness is also a common experience and was noted by a study in which 13% of participants reported sore muscles after an adjustment (Meier, Evans, Hartvigsen, Shulz & Bronfort, 2015). The muscles around your spine have been pushing and pulling in the same directions for many years, which has maintained the misalignment of your vertebrae. Now those muscles are being asked to push and pull in the directions that maintain correct alignment, so it’s only natural to expect them to be a bit sore!
Regardless of the type of discomfort, it tends to be mild and usually occurs within 4 hours after an adjustment and resolves within 24 hours (Cagnie, 2004).
(Side note: the “muscle memory” that maintains incorrect vertebral alignment is why multiple adjustments are needed to correct the spine – the muscles need to be retrained!)
Don’t hesitate to ask Dr. Foss about any concerns!
Some people report not feeling much different.
Lastly, some people report not feeling any different after their first adjustments. Even though you may not notice any effects, rest assured that important changes are taking place! Chiropractic adjustments won’t always make you feel better instantly, but they’ll make you heal better instantly!
